The Summer Institute 2004 is sponsored by the Grant-in-aid from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan:
The Summer Institute 2004 is also held as a part of YITP workshop and is supported by Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics.
There will be five lectures and about 15 short talks. Discussion is one of the major scientific activities at the Summer Institute. We have reserved one large seminar room (room No.3) and two small rooms (room No.1,2) which can be used for informal meetings and discussions.
All participants are asked to write a short activity report in the enclosed form before they leave. We will also publish the proceedings, and kindly ask all the speakers to contribute to the proceedings. Details will be announced during the meeting.
The following is some information only for those who will arrive at the Narita International Airport and directly come to the Summer Institute. Please visit:
JR is an abbreviation of Japan Railway.
It will cost about 7,000 Yen altogether.
Registration will start on Thursday August 12 at 15:00 in the entrance lobby of the conference location. You will get among other things a key of your room and tickets for the meals.
It is usually very humid and very hot in the summer in Japan. The temperature in August can easily rise to more than 30 Celsius. However, we will stay in Fuji-Yoshida. The altitude of Fuji-Yoshida is 750 m, so it will be slightly cooler. [The average temperature at the top of Mt. Fuji (3,776 m) in August is about 8 Celsius.]
The office of the Summer Institute is located in the room No. 5. You may ask for public transportation, social programs etc. It is usually open from 8:00-9:00 and 13:00-14:00. If it is closed, please do not hesitate to ask the organizing committee.
We will use the room No. 4 as the common room and offer coffee in the morning and afternoon. In front of this room we will post announcements on the schedules and changes of talks, social programs etc in the actual day. The latest abstracts of hep-ph, hep-lat and hep-th will be available in this room.
An informal welcome reception will be held on Thursday evening August 12 in the lobby.
We will hold a dinner party (barbecue with meats, fishes, vegetables) on Sunday evening August 15.
All the meals will be served in the dinning room.
When you would like to cancel a meal, please notify the front desk clerk 24 hours in advance. You are asked to give your meal ticket to the clerk. Please also note that the room reservations are now final and can not be cancelled.
There are Japanese baths for women on the second floor and for men on the first floor. They are open from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 24:00. Showers can be used at any time. Baths and showers are free.
There exists a laundry at the conference location. It is located on the first floor, and is free for use, except for the gas drier.
Outside doors are locked at midnight. After midnight you can NOT enter the house.
In the entrance lobby there are public telephones. You can make international calls, too. Please DO NOT use the room telephone to make a call outside of the house.
Monday August 16 is free day for excursions. Although no official excursion is planed, we expect some excursions will be spontaneously organized for the families and friends traveling with participants.
Here are useful informations:
Mt. Fuji is 3,776 m high. The closest entrance is the Kawaguchi-ko entrance. We have to go to a parking area for the Kawaguchi-ko entrance (2,300 m) by a bus (or a texi). The path to the top is very steep, and it will take 5 ± 1 hours to reach the top. The average temperature in August at the top of Mt. Fuji is about 8 Celsius. If you would like to climb Mt. Fuji, please bring appropriate clothes and shoes with you. You should also prepare a hat, towel and anti-sunburn cream to cut off UV radiation. Details will be announced.
For those who do not climb Mt. Fuji, someone will plan to organize other excursions, for instance, to go to the lakes and/or caves around Mt.Fuji. Other useful information can be found at the registration.
We wish you a pleasant stay at the Summer Institute 2004, and we are looking forward to your active contribution to the meeting.
